YouTube is an online video sharing and social media platform. YouTube allows a user to upload videos, like, comment, share and follow which makes it a useful platform for marketers. It can act as a single home for your videos. With over 2.6 billion monthly active users, YouTube is a very efficient and trustworthy platform to use.

Recently, YouTube made an announcement about the introduction of handles on the platform. If you don’t know what handles are, they start with ‘@’ symbol and are a different concept than channel names. The YouTube handles are meant to benefit both businesses and youtubers. The aim of this feature is to make it easier for your audience to find you and connect with you. A YouTube handle is unique to a profile, not like channel names. A channel name cannot provide you with distinctiveness, increased connectivity and more visitors, all at once. This is where YouTube handles will come in handy.

Ways in which a YouTube handle will benefit you –
  • Increased visibility in shorts.
  • People can easily tag you in videos.
  • Lets you connect much efficiently in the YouTube community.

According to YouTube, your handle will become a part of your channel URL. In many cases, your personalized URL will automatically become the handle.

Let’s understand the above statements better with an example:

Consider you handle is @creator123, therefore your channel URL will be –

This will enable you to drive traffic to your channel when people are not on YouTube.

YouTube has made no restrictions on changing your handle or selecting a different one after you are notified. You will receive the notification through YouTube Studio.

The rollout itself will take a few weeks because of the gradual process. But once it is done, your handle will appear at a few different places across YouTube:

  • The shorts Tab
  • Search results
  • Comments and mentions
  • Alongside your channel name

Also remember, after november 14th, 2022 YouTube will automatically decide one for you. If you don’t select one before the due date.
