Instagram is testing a new feature where users could follow a hashtag and this was spotted by England based Freelance Social Media Consultant, Pippa Akram on Thursday 9th November.

As the feature is still in testing phase, it unsure as to how the feature will actually function. It could be a new and different feature for the users as they would be interested in following topics and not just see feeds from their friends or people they follow.

Anyone doing Instagram right, know that hashtags are an important part of an effective Instagram strategy. Using the right hashtags boost reach and increase engagement exponentially. Due to the frequently used hashtags, message by the advertisers often remains hidden. This leads to marketers creating their own hashtags to help promote their business.

With the new features, marketers could advise your followers to not only follow your brand but also to follow your brand and campaign hashtags to build community and encourage engagement.

This is just a small addition, and there aren’t any official announcements from Instagram, whether it will see a complete rollout anytime soon.

The feature can see a great ripple effect, thus increasing the scope for custom hashtag marketing on Instagram.
