Just over a year ago, Facebook launched its event app, where users could browse and search for activities going on nearby, but the app wasn’t a big hit. Facebook is now rebranding the event app as ‘Facebook Local’. It will help users discover bars, restaurants and nearby attractions and will have information about local businesses with reviews from Facebook users.
Aditya Koolwal the product manager said that “The new app, Facebook Local, helps you easily find what to do, where to go, where to eat, or what you need — all recommended by the people you know and trust.”
He also said that Facebook Local won’t feature ads from businesses and events trying to stand out, but also mentioned that there may be advertising on the platform in the near future.
Facebook Local’s homepage shows shortcuts to see nearby restaurants, cafes, drinks, attractions, and more. Users can also see where their friends and people they follow are going.
One can also see a calendar of your day’s events, a ‘Trending Events’ feed, guides to music, nightlife, art, and other happenings and options to see everything going on particular days. The Calendar tab has all the events invite, which users can import on to their phone calendar and have everything in one place.
